Adult Therapy
How does psychotherapy work?
Every person is unique and thus every therapy process is different. The way I work is generally more open-ended and will be tailored to suit you and your needs. While it is possible that certain concerns can be addressed in a few short sessions, others may take a lot longer. The way I work involves attempting to work deeply with who you are, your experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Generally we will work to get to the root of your struggle rather than me providing you with advice or coping skills.
Where destructive relationship patterns, low self-confidence or even self-harm are preventing you from finding serenity, or reaching your potential, your patterns and ways of dealing with emotions and events will be challenged and we will take steps to help you make the change and growth you require in order to live a more satisfying life. This approach to therapy endeavors to help you live the life you want, to heal old wounds and pain, and to support you in being the unique person you are.
Successful therapy is usually not an ‘instant fix’ and requires time, money and often taxing emotional work. The way a basic therapy session works is that we will meet regularly to discuss in your own way what has been on your mind, what has been happening in your life and how you have been feeling. The therapy process will explore deeper layers to the material you share in a safe and private relationship in which I will try to provide you with respectful and caring help.
